Union Parishad performs 10 mandatory, 38 optional tasks under its municipal work.


(A) Compulsory Functions:


1. To maintain law and order and assist the administration in this regard.

2. Take steps to curb crime, disorder and smuggling.

3. Agriculture, forest, tree plantation, fisheries and livestock, education, health, rooms for the economical and social development of the people

    To adopt and implement development projects in the fields of industrial, communication, irrigation and flood control.

4. Extending family planning activities.

5. Develop local resources and ensure its use.

6. Public property such as roads, bridges, culverts, dams, canals, electricity lines, government property etc.

7. To review the development activities of all organizations at the union level and to the officials of the Upazila Executive Officer

    recommend.

8. To promote publicity in the establishment and use of sanitary latrines and to campaign for this.

9. Registration of births, deaths, blinds, beggars, and destitute people.

10. Manage all types of census.


(B) General Functions:


1. Road maintenance and maintenance.

2. Arrangement and maintenance of public places, open spaces, parks and playgrounds.
